becoming an Income Tax Officer, which are being listed below:
First Method (Through Promotion):
Staff Selection
Commission conducts SSC CGL Examination every year for thousands of vacancies
in various ministries and departments of the Central Government. In this
examination, you can appear for the competitive examination, if you are a graduate
from any University. If you are able to pass all the stages of this
examination, you may be selected for the post of Income Tax Inspector. All
Income Tax Inspectors are promoted as Income Tax Officers in due course of time
as per the procedure prescribed by the Department.
Second Method (Direct Entry) :
You can also become
Income Tax Officer directly through clearing the Civil Services Examination,
which is also being held every year for the selection of IAS, IFS, IPS and IRS
like thousands of posts. If you have been selected under IRS category based on
your performance, then you can directly join as Income Tax Officer or even some
higher post like Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax
Qualification required for the Income Tax
Officer:
Any Graduate from any
Indian University is eligible to appear in the SSC CGL Examination conducted by
the Staff Selection Commission or Civil Services Examination conducted by the
Union Public Service Commission.
Pay Scale:
Pay Scale of the Income
Tax Officer is Level-10 of the Central Government. Level-10 pay scale is
15600-39100+Grade Pay of 5400. Total Salary at this level works out to around
Rs.1,00,000 per month
Who can become an Income Tax Officer ?
Following
types of persons are eligible to become an Income Tax Officer:

Citizens of India, or
·
A subject of Nepal, or
·
A subject of Bhutan, or
·
A Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962,
intending to settle in India permanently, or
·
An individual of Indian origin who has moved to India
permanently from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Burma, East African countries of Kenya,
Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Ethiopia, Malawi, Zaire or
Vietnam
·
Candidates other than Indian nationality require the certificate
of eligibility issued by the government of India.

Income Tax Officer is
mainly responsible for the assessment of Income Tax of any person based on the
